Walking and Cycling

Nether Compton is an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful countryside, coast and varied attractions of both Dorset and Somerset. There is actually no need to get back in the car! You can walk or cycle straight from the back door. The Monarch’s Way and McMillan Way (walking) and National Cycle Route 26 are very nearby as is the South West coastal footpath. We can lend you large scale maps of the local area and lock your bikes up overnight. Drying space is available for wet kit. 

Sherborne – historic market town famous for it’s beautiful Abbey as well as two castles. There is a Literary Festival in October and Music festival in May.

Cerne Abbas Giant - Britain’s largest chalk hill figure cared for by the National Trust. Visit the lovely village of Cerne Abbas too.

The Fleet Air Arm Museum – one of the largest aviation museums in the world.

Hardy Country – Thomas Hardy was born and lived much of his life in Dorset. Hardy’s Cottage is a National trust property near Dorchester.
